every one Financial Peace Financial Peace University is a program used by Habitat affiliates, community groups, and faith-based organizations across the country. If you have ever spent a moment stressed about money, faced an emergency you couldn’t afford, or have been unable to achieve your financial goals, this could be your first step towards achieving true Financial Peace. Program Overview In order to serve even more families and to assist with preparing potential homebuyers for the additional financial responsibilities, HFHGC is now offering our Financial Peace University classes to the public. The cost is $129, which includes all class materials and access to additional materials and resources online. This will allow you to log in online whenever needed so you can review, explore, and learn more at your leisure with unlimited future access. Anyone – even if you are not interested in purchasing a home with Habitat for Humanity – is encouraged and welcomed to attend these classes. No requirements or income guidelines, just a strong desire to bring Financial Peace to your life and share in learning with others that have that same goal. Note if you ARE interested in applying to purchase a Habitat home: Completion of Financial Peace University will meet the Habitat homebuyer financial class requirement to purchase a home. workforce development Construction Training Program The Habitat for Humanity Construction Training Program, or CTP, is a workforce development initiative designed to train and prepare individuals for careers in the construction industry. CTP, a collaboration between Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati and CityLink, is a powerful tool for low-income adults to break the cycle of poverty by providing skills, certifications, and pathways to stable, well-paying jobs. Enroll Employers Start Here Homeownership Rock the Block Critical Repair Program Construction Training Advocacy Uniquely Habitat Our mission at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati is to build homes, community, and hope. The Construction Training Program allows individuals to tap into this mission as they build a home alongside a Habitat homebuyer. Many students say is a very meaningful and empowering experience. For nearly 40 years, we have taught hands-on construction skills to volunteers of all skill levels. CTP leverages what Habitat does best, and gives trainees the opportunity to learn about home construction at every stage of the process. Students also experience the benefits of building supportive relationships on site and report that they are grateful for their cohort and for the relationships that they carry beyond the program. Impact In FY2024, 42 students graduated from CTP. 24 students were hired after graduation (as of July 2024). "The reason why I got into construction is because I wanted to have a career. want to help people... there's a need for housing. I have a plan to where I can help people just like Habitat for Humanity does. I really look forward to starting this journey and this program has helped me tremendously." Ivory, an August 2023 graduate Growing a Vital Industry The construction industry is a vital part of the American economy, and demand for skilled workers is on the rise. In Greater Cincinnati, we're experiencing a shortage of skilled workers in this industry. The Habitat for Humanity Construction Training Program is designed to provide individuals with the training and skills they need to succeed in the construction industry. Participants receive on-the-job training and wrap around support as they complete the program and enter the in-demand field. Program Overview The 6 week training program equips students to understand the basics of construction so they are prepared to enter the workforce construction-ready! Hands-on tool training Get OSHA-10 & NCCER Core Certified in only 6 weeks. 100% of participants interview with employers. 8-10 Habitat build days 100% tuition-free! Students enroll for the program through Enroll Hire CTP Graduates Sponsor a Cohort No experience necessary. Previous construction experience is not necessary to qualify for our program. As a training course we expect most trainees to have little to no experience. Our program is designed to introduce trainees to the construction field. Utilizing classroom, lab, and field experiences, we aim to give our trainees the tools to discover their interests and prepare them for a career pathway in apprenticeship programs, entering the workforce. Program Eligibility Must be 18 years or older Must have driver’s license before the program begins Must commit to being drug-free while engaged in the program Academic aptitude in both reading and math Most felonies accepted. No sex crimes. Prepared for careers in commercial construction Students complete the class with OSHA-10 & NCCER Core Certifications. All students have the opportunity to interview with employers and most begin careers immediately following graduation. Upon completion of the 6-week program, students have the opportunity to work a paid full-time position for an additional 6 weeks maximum at Habitat for Humanity Greater Cincinnati. Students can leave at any time when they receive another job offer. During this additional 6 weeks, students will have continued support in resume building, interview preparation, and applying for jobs. Clermont County Lead Safe Ohio Program The Clermont County Lead Safe Ohio Program is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to make more of Ohio’s older homes safer for children who have been potentially exposed to lead hazards. Through this FREE program, funds are available for various repairs that can proactively prevent and mitigate these lead hazards, even if a child doesn’t live in the home. Homeownership Rock the Block Critical Repair Program Construction Training Advocacy Program Details Homeowners in Clermont County with homes built before 1978 may be eligible for the program. Households with incomes at or below 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) will be prioritized. This translates to $75,500 for a family of three and $58,700 for a single person living alone. Qualified lead-safe renovations will depend on the specific needs of your property and the condition of your home, which will be evaluated as part of the award process. Eligible Repairs Eligible repairs are based on the condition and age of your property and may include new windows and doors, siding, interior and exterior painting, and repairs to fascia and soffits. These repairs all address common places where lead paint could chip or erode. We will contact you within 3-5 business days. Due to limited funding, all applications received are reviewed on a first come, first served basis. Our Programs Affordable Homeownership Learn More Critical Home Repair Learn More Construction Training Program Learn More Where We Come From Inspired by the national Habitat for Humanity movement, a group of local Christians founded the grassroots organization in Cincinnati in 1986. The early Cincinnati Habitat was entirely volunteer run with large involvement from local churches. Over the next few decades, several independent Habitat organizations across the Greater Cincinnati region combined forces. In 2013, the largest of these, Cincinnati Habitat and TriState Habitat, merged to become Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati. Today, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati is the largest nonprofit homebuilder in the region. Together with homebuyer families, donors, and volunteers we have built over 680 high-quality modest homes and completed over 140 critical home repairs for low-income homeowners in our community. We operate five Habitat for Humanity ReStores, home improvement retail stores that fund about a third of our work and keeps usable materials from landfills. International volunteer opportunities Habitat Greater Cincinnati every country Global Village Trips Habitat for Humanity International builds in more than 80 countries around the world, working in local villages and communities to address the most urgent housing and health needs. Each year Habitat for Humanity “tithes” 10% of privately raised undesignated funds to support Habitat’s mission worldwide with a goal of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness. Our tithe goes towards building homes in Nepal, Cambodia, El Salvador, and Kenya. Our tithe has made it possible for more than 1,000 families in Kenya, El Salvador, Cambodia, and Nepal to have decent, affordable housing. Interested in joining a Global Village Trip? We are thrilled to announce that Global Village is back! The stores are open to the public and the items they sell are similar to what you may find in other home goods stores, such as a brand-new box of tile you’ve been needing for your bathroom project or a vintage treasure you won’t find anywhere else. However, Habitat ReStores are more than just resell stores. The purpose of Habitat ReStores is to contribute to the work of Habitat for Humanity. When you support your local Habitat ReStore by shopping, donating or volunteering, you are helping families build or repair affordable homes in your community. How does the ReStore support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati? The ReStores are owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity. All proceeds from the stores are invested directly back in to the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati. When you make a purchase or donate an item, you are helping to build or repair homes right here in your community. What does a Habitat ReStore sell? Our Habitat ReStores tend to resemble home improvement stores mixed with a furniture stores — very unique stores where shoppers have the opportunity to purchase items at less than retail prices. At the majority of Habitat ReStores you’ll find items that fit into the following categories: furniture, appliances, cabinets, home goods and building materials. Items can range from brand new to gently used, and there will likely be a wide range of brands and styles. Of course, that’s not all you’ll find. Because the inventory of each Habitat ReStore draws heavily from donations, you never know exactly what you’ll find. We recommend heading to your local Habitat ReStore today to see what’s in stock! How do Habitat ReStores help the environment? When gently used building materials or household products are donated to Habitat ReStore and then sold at a discount to a community member who needs it, those items are recycled and kept out of the landfill. How can I support Habitat ReStore? When you shop or donate at a Habitat ReStore, you are automatically supporting not only your local store, but also the Habitat mission worldwide. Additionally, Habitat ReStores are always looking for volunteers. Volunteer duties can range from receiving donations, stocking store shelves, sorting materials, merchandising and pricing inventory. Check out our volunteer page for more information. How do you ensure your items are free of bed bugs? At the Habitat ReStores, our customer safety is a top priority. The ReStores in Greater Cincinnati are certified by the Ohio Department of Commerce to sell bedding, upholstered furniture and stuffed toys. This means we operate under strict regulations for examining, cleaning, and disinfecting the items that we sell and are subject to regular inspections by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. We extend these strict cleaning policies across all stores, even those in Kentucky. Since the first ReStore opened in Greater Cincinnati, we have never had a single bed bug. AmeriCorps members spend 10.5 months serving in various roles across our organization and our city to help make affordable housing possible. Open Positions About Us Leadership Careers AmeriCorps Program Events News An opportunity like no other AmeriCorps members contribute a year of service and in return receive a modest living stipend, a basic health insurance plan, an education award, job training, and personal and professional growth opportunities. You will leave your year of service not only with new transferable skills, but also with a sense of community that comes with no other employment opportunity. We accept members on a rolling basis. There are set start and end dates, and we will work together to find one that works best for you. To get started, you'll need to apply for a position on our Careers Page. What kind of hours does an AmeriCorps serve? Construction Crew Leads typically serve Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8am to 4pm, while the Community Outreach Coordinator and Development VISTA serve Mondays through Fridays during times agreed upon with their respective supervisors. Am I allowed to have a second job/go to school during my term? Absolutely! As long as it doesn't interfere with your AmeriCorps service.
