every voice Advocacy At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati, our vision is of a region where everyone has a decent place to live. While we build and repair homes in pursuit of that vision, we also advocate for policies and systems that eliminate barriers to safe and affordable homes. Everyone deserves to build the foundation for a stable, healthy future for themselves and their families — no matter who they are, where they live or how much money they earn. As an organization, we have long advocated for our homeowners and for increased housing affordability in our city. Now, we are asking you to join us by joining the #CostOfHome movement Homeownership Rock the Block Critical Repair Program Construction Training Advocacy Advocacy News Habitat on the Hill 2025 In February, we had the privilege of attending Habitat on the Hill in Washington, D.C., where Habitat for Humanity advocates from across the 1 2 Families across the U.S. are paying too high a price to cover the cost of home. Rent and homeownership costs are skyrocketing, but wages are not keeping pace. Too many families struggle to make ends meet. In cities, suburbs, and rural areas, the stability that home should bring remains out of reach for many families. At Habitat for Humanity, we know that a family should never have to spend more than 30% of their income on a home. But today, nearly 19 million U.S. households pay 1/2 or more of their income on a place to live. That is unacceptable. That means that 1 in 6 families are denied the personal and economic stability that safe, decent and affordable housing provides. Instead, 1 in 6 families are forced to make impossible choices. Safe homes. Nutritious food on the table. Health care. Access to good schools. Reliable transportation. Now, as the economic impacts of COVID-19 continue to unfold, the number of families struggling to make ends meet is only growing. Housing policy is influenced by decades of systemic racism. Habitat's Cost of Home campaign calls for policymakers to acknowledge and address the well-documented historic patterns of racial discrimination in housing and land use policies — at all levels of government — that still impact the makeup and opportunities of our communities. We declare our commitment: Habitat for Humanity will work to ensure that no family has to pay more than half of their paycheck to cover the cost of home. Over the next 5 years, we will join Habitat organizations, our partners, our volunteers, and community members across the country to find the solutions and help create the policies that will allow 10 million individuals to meet their most basic needs. The time is now Use your voice to encourage others to vote and tell candidates that no family should have to spend more than half their income on housing. Here's your "action kit": Vote! Candidates at every level should be asked where they stand on affordable housing for all. partnerships faith in action Founded on a mission to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity offers faith groups a powerful way to put their faith into action by building homes, communities, and hope. For over three decades, churches and faith groups of any denomination have given generously, offered prayers and volunteers. Financial Donations Other Ways to Give Corporate Partnership Volunteer rooted in faith Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati began with a calling to put faith into action. Inspired by the national Habitat for Humanity movement, a group of local Christians founded the grassroots organization in Cincinnati in 1986. The early Cincinnati Habitat was entirely volunteer run as an outreach program of several churches. As Habitat gained momentum across the country, more churches felt called to join the mission. In Greater Cincinnati, church congregations joined together to form coalitions. These coalitions sponsor and build homes from the ground up. They get to know partner families and celebrate the homes with dedication celebrations. While we are rooted in the Christian tradition, we welcome groups of any faith and spiritual tradition. For over three decades, faith communities and faith-based organizations have made an incredible impact in our region, funding and building hundreds of homes. Habitat Beginnings volunteer pray faith coalitions together we can do more It can be challenging for one congregation to sponsor and complete a Habitat home on their own. However, when several congregations come together, they can make a significant impact on the lack of affordable housing by building homes in partnership with hardworking families. It’s through the process of working side-by-side that we realize we are far more alike than we are different and true community is formed. Habitat homebuyer Tyleah told the unique story of building her home. In order to stabilize the foundation, we had to bring in 10ft of crushed rock. Since receiving the news, Tyleah said, "I've been singing the hymn, On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand." Tyleah's home in Evanston was built with generous support from Shalom Coalition.
