Aging in Place Program

The Aging in Place Program (AIP) is dedicated to assisting homeowners make their home a safe and comfortable place to live. The program serves older homeowners across the tri-state region and focuses on accessibility improvements, mobility modifications and critical home repairs that are crucial to help older homeowners live in their own homes longer. 

Program Overview

Are you 60 or older and in need of a home repair or home modification so that you can remain independent in the home you own? If so, we may be able to help!

Habitat Greater Cincinnati wants to make continued homeownership for our area's older homeowners a reality so they can age in place with the comfort and dignity they deserve.

​

Our service area includes Boone, Campbell, Kenton counties in Kentucky; Dearborn and Ohio Counties in Indiana, and Butler, Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren Counties in Ohio.

Step 1: Review Types of Repairs

Inspectors from Habitat will prepare a list of recommended work. This is simply a list of suggested work and not a guarantee of the final project list. Actual work to be done will be determined only by Habitat based on the program’s budget limitations and the extent of work necessary. The work done for applicants accepted during the application period will focus on critical repairs and accessibility needs, with other work done as the budget allows.

Types of work that may be provided include:

  • Modifications to improve mobility, accessibility and safety, such as grab bars, tub to shower conversions, wheelchair ramps, and widened doorways.

  • Other projects as budget allows, possibly including roof repairs/ replacements, fixing broken windows, repairing water leaks, electrical repairs and other work that fits within the guidelines of the AIP program.

  • Alleviation of code violations.

At this time, the Aging in Place program can not cover the following types of work:

  • Cosmetic work including but not limited to: painting, cabinets, appliances, window treatments/security bars, and repairing trim work.

  • Removal of mold, lead, or asbestos

  • Structural repairs including foundation issues

At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati, we believe that every individual deserves a safe and decent place to call home. That's why our critical home repair programs are designed to provide assistance to homeowners in need without the burden of a payback policy.

We understand that unexpected repairs can place a significant financial strain on families, especially those who are already facing economic challenges. Our commitment is to help alleviate the burden by offering critical home repairs without any requirement for repayment.

By providing these repairs without a payback policy, we aim to empower homeowners and enable them to maintain the integrity and safety of their homes. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live in a safe and healthy environment, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Step 2 (AIP)

Step 2: Review Program Requirements

You may qualify for the AIP Program if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • I own and live in my home full time. 

  • My home is a single-family house or condominium unit (not a mobile home), not rented, and in livable condition or will be upon repair.

  • I am age 60 or older or someone in my household is 60 or older. 

  • My home is in Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, Warren, Campbell, Kenton, Dearborn, or Ohio (Indiana) county. 

  • I have not already been served through the Aging In Place program.

  • The city and county property taxes on my home are current.

  • The mortgage on my home is current and I can show a recent mortgage statement to prove this. 

  • I have homeowner's insurance.

  • My home needs work that falls within the services and budget of the program.

  • I meet the income guidelines for the program, based on my income and the income of everyone else who lives in my home. (See chart below for specific income ranges.)

  • I have proof of ownership of the property.

  • I can provide documentation to prove identity, age, residency and income for myself and everyone else who lives in my home. (1)

  • All persons listed on the deed to my home will sign all required documentation.

  • All of my information matches across all documents or I have proof that differing information is correct.(2)

  • No felony convictions for anyone in the household, over age 18, within the past five years.

1. Documents you need to provide might include a driver’s license or other government-issued ID, birth certificate, utility bill, 2 consecutive pay stubs within the past 30 days, mortgage papers, Social Security income statement, retirement/pension and/or bank statements. 

2. Proof of name change, marriage license, divorce decree, death certificate, etc.

You can either download the full print version, print it out, and mail it in, or you can request that an application be sent to you via mail. We do not accept online applications at this time.
