Donor Advised Funds

What is a Donor Advised Fund

A donor advised fund, or DAF, is a charitable giving account. When you make a charitable contribution to the fund, you receive an immediate tax deduction. Then you can recommend grants to nonprofits over time.

DAFs are often established through community foundations, financial institutions, or employer-sponsored programs.

Why a Donor Advised Fund Might Be Right for You
  • You want to simplify giving across multiple charities.

  • You have a high-income year and want to lock in a tax deduction now.

  • You want flexibility to support causes over time.

  • You want to give appreciated assets without triggering capital gains.

  • You want to involve family members in charitable decisions.

DAFs can also be used to complement or replace a private foundation.

As with all gift planning, you should consult your financial adviser and lawyer to help you get started with recommending a grant to Habitat for Humanity. Your donor-advised fund gift to Habitat will help families across Greater Cincinnati build a better life.
