A Father’s Dream of Homeownership

For Greg “Aaron” Anderson, becoming a homeowner gave him the chance to provide his daughter, Lyric, with a safer, more stable life.

Before partnering with Habitat for Humanity, Aaron and Lyric lived in a one-bedroom rental home that had several ongoing problems. Leaks from both the roof and basement damaged their belongings, the windows would not fully close, and the conditions inside and outside the home often felt unsafe. Aaron, a single father who works full-time as a Trained Nursing Assistant while also attending school full-time, spent years doing everything he could to support his daughter while hoping for a better living situation.

For Aaron, one of the hardest parts was not being able to give Lyric the kind of space and environment he wanted for her. Instead of having room to play freely outside, he often worried about the neighborhood's safety and the conditions around their home.

That opportunity came through Habitat for Humanity.

Last year, Aaron officially became a homeowner and moved into a home where Lyric finally had room to play, grow, and feel comfortable.

One of her favorite parts of the house is her pink bedroom, something she had wanted for a long time. Outside, she now has a backyard where she can safely spend time with friends and enjoy her trampoline.

“It was one of the happiest moments of my life to know that with Habitat I would be able to provide my daughter a safe, happy home,” Aaron shared.

The change has brought peace of mind and relief after years of uncertainty. Instead of worrying about leaks, unsafe conditions, or limited space, he can focus on spending time with his daughter and making new memories together in their home. What once felt out of reach has now become a foundation for a brighter future for both of them.

“We are beyond blessed and grateful to be afforded this opportunity to partner with Habitat for Humanity,” he said. “I could only give all praises to God, for with Him all things are possible.”
