- FY23 Annual Report | Habitat Cincinnati
July 1, 2022- June 30, 2023 Annual Report Introduction | Programs & Services | Volunteers | ReStore | Donors | Financials "Our shared commitment to affordable housing and building community will reach new heights. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, we are changing lives and building a stronger, more vibrant Cincinnati." A letter from the CEO Growing Together Dear Friends, As I reflect on my first year as CEO of this incredible organization, I am filled with gratitude and excitement. Over the past year, we have achieved remarkable milestones together, and I am eager to share our progress and vision with you. We can’t thank you enough for all that you helped accomplish in the last year. Despite the challenges we've faced following the pandemic, this year has been one of significant achievements. At the beginning of the year, we expanded the Critical Repair Program and introduced Aging in Place. We are now able to partner with older low-income homeowners to repair and modify their homes to ensure safety and independence as they age. This new initiative was met with overwhelming interest from the community setting in motion an exponential growth plan for our home repair programs. This year alone, we improved living conditions of 66 households, a 164% increase from the year before. With your help, we built 16 new homes, marking the highest number of homes constructed in a single year since the onset of the pandemic. These homes represent stable and affordable housing solutions for 16 first-time homebuyer families in Greater Cincinnati. In the spring, we formed a partnership with CityLink to lead a workforce development program. The Habitat Construction Training Program empowers individuals to enter careers in commercial and residential construction. Our deep knowledge as a top builder paired with CityLink’s expertise in removing barriers to student success is creating brighter futures. We know that a strong construction workforce is critical to our vision of strong communities and affordable housing. As we look forward, we are embarking on a season of unprecedented growth. Housing affordability is one of the most pressing issues facing our community, and with our ambitious strategic plan, we will rise to the challenge as an equitable and sustainable solution to the current housing crisis. This year, we will take advantage of one-time relief funding from the State of Ohio and Hamilton County to build and repair more homes. The generous gift from Mackenzie Scott will allow us to grow our team immediately and sustain expanded operations. The opening of the sixth Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Loveland will provide additional revenue needed to create more opportunities for affordable homeownership in our community. As we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities of the coming year, we do so with confidence, knowing that our shared commitment to affordable housing and building community will continue to make a profound impact. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, we are changing lives and building a stronger, more vibrant Cincinnati. With Gratitude, Joe Hansbauer President & CEO “Living with [my mom] actually helped me buy my own home. [...] It literally was the foundation for myself to be able to build off of for my family.” -Alisha, daughter of Habitat homeowner Affordable Homeownership Impacts Generations Sheree and Alishi a 's Story The Year at a Glance July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023 115 households partnered with Habitat for Humanity Greater Cincinnati to build or improve their homes two new programs launched: Aging in Place, and Construction Training Program 1,930 volunteers gave over 30,941 hours of their time 13 new policies and initiatives were implemented as part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan Award Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati was voted a Top Workplace in Greater Cincinnati 99 households improved their homes through the Critical Repair Programs and Rock the Block "When I think about building and buying a new home with Habitat, what immediately comes to mind, is building a community. A community built among the current and future homeowners who shared a similar journey. The community that was built amongst the construction team, and the community connections that were made with all the volunteers who shared their stories. Each and every interaction holds a special place in my heart. For my family and I, becoming a homeowner means carrying on traditions that I had growing up as a child. But also carrying and creating new traditions of my own. We have so many memories to be created within these walls. Most importantly, homeownership means we created a legacy--a legacy for my children. And from the financial homeownership classes, […] I can now pass this knowledge on to my children so they can also make wise choices as they grow older and travel on their own journey in life's adventure. Most importantly, I cannot create my family's legacy without thanking the legacy of Habitat for Humanity […] whose vision has empowered affordable homeownership but also the immense amount of appreciation, knowledge, and skills learned and gained plus the rewarding feeling of being hands-on and partnering with so many wonderful and encouraging people that I would never forget." -Felicia Habitat Homeowner, 2023, Evanston Your Impact: Programs & Services Creating A ffordable Homeownership 16 families became first-time homeowners through the Affordable Homeownership Program 81% of new homeowners this year were minorities. 75% of homes were purchased by single mothers with minor children 12 mortgages were paid off in full 6 new homeowners work in the healthcare industry 26 kids moved into Habitat homes this year Habitat’s homeownership program sells homes to families with affordable, 30-year, zero-interest mortgages, helping first-time homeowners enter the market and build equity. The commitment is up to you! You may volunteer one time or as often as you wish. You may come as a part of a group, and then decide that you would like to continue volunteering as an individual. We are delighted to work with you to fit your needs and schedule. What skills are required? No specific skills are needed, just a willingness to learn and a positive attitude. Habitat provides an experienced site leader on each work site who will provide on-the-job training. Safety is important to us and, therefore, we provide free on-line safety training courses when we register you. What do I bring? Closed toe shoes are required. No tools are necessary, but if you have them you are encouraged to bring basics, such as a hammer, nail apron, tape measure, utility knife, and a pencil. Please clearly label all of your tools with your name or initials. Hard hats and safety goggles will be provided. Water will be available, but you may wish to bring your own supply. It’s always a good idea to wear a hat and sunscreen when working outdoors. Where do I sign the liability waiver? Volunteer services will coordinate with you to get all of the proper forms signed. This is done on our online systems, called Volunteer Hub. If you have any questions, contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@habitatcincinnati.org or 513-482-5614. What do I wear? Footwear needs to be sturdy and closed-toe and closed-heel. Boots or sneakers are both considered appropriate footwear. Wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Please prepare for the weather by checking the forecast before you arrive at the work site. If it is sunny, please bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. If it is raining, please bring a jacket, raincoat, and/or rain boots. If it is cold, please dress in layers along with a hat, gloves and warm socks. What will happen when I arrive at the site? At the beginning of each workday, a Habitat site supervisor will begin the morning with a prayer, introductions, a safety talk and instructions. The group will then break into crews to work on the various building tasks. How do I cancel my volunteer date? Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator directly at 513-482-5614 with at least one week's notice to cancel or reschedule your group's outing. Do you provide lunch/snacks? Unless you are working with a group that informed you they will provide lunch, please bring your own packed lunch/snacks. Water is available on the site. You are encouraged to bring your own refillable water bottle, labelled with your name on it. What type of bathroom facilities are on site? We have portable toilets on each build site. What if someone is not comfortable building? We are happy to have you in one of our ReStores! If you are scheduled with a group on our Construction site, there is something for everyone. Please inform your crew leader if you are not comfortable with the task that you have been assigned and we will happily find something that you are comfortable with. What kind of tasks with volunteers be doing? Tasks vary depending on whether you are in the ReStore, on a construction site, the different stages of a build, etc. In our ReStores you can expect to be unloading donations, cleaning them, placing them in the store, and helping customers. For a Build Day, you can contact the Volunteer Coordinator a week in advance to get a better idea of what to expect, as building schedules can change a lot from day to day. How can I contact you for more information? For more information, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at Volunteer@HabitatCincinnati.org or 513-482-5614.
