Donations are central to the operations of a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. But your donations have a much larger impact beyond keeping our showrooms beautifully stocked. Your donations help the environment and have positive impacts on the greater community.

1.       Donations keep items out of landfills.

Did you know that over 15,000 tons of furniture, appliances and construction debris end up in landfills each year? By donating, you are becoming part of the solution, not the problem. Habitat for Humanity ReStores accept items that many other donation centers may not like large appliances, building materials, and even plumbing fixtures!

2.       Second-hand shops help to reduce pollution.

Many people tend to purchase brand new items to replace items that are still in great condition in favor of trendier, newer items. But newer doesn’t always mean better. Keeping these gently used items in circulation encourages less products to be created and consumed. When less products are created, this reduces carbon emissions and water consumption which in turn makes our planet a better place to live.

3.       Donations provide cost-effective options for the community.

Having cost-effective options allows for community members to better choose how and where they spend their money. This provides many with the financial freedom to invest the money they saved on home items to go towards goods and services to better invest in themselves and their communities.

4.       The profits from ReStores are reinvested into the community.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization and that includes their ReStores. Any profit we make is reinvested into our vision for a world where everyone has a decent place to live. This money goes towards building homes, educating new homeowners and aspiring construction professionals, and repairing the homes of veterans and the elderly. Your donations and purchases make a difference!
